We have slowly been swapping out toxic items in our house to non toxic ones, trying to buy as much organic as possible. It’s been a process!
Since we spend so much time on our mattresses, it’s important that they are not off-gassing a ton of toxic chemicals. Here’s a lister of safer ones on the market:
Naturepedic offers a certified organic/non toxic mattress. This is a newer item on Amazon, but they are not a new company. They have received many awards and are GOTS certified. The company was founded by a former environmental engineer who went in search of a safe mattress when his first grandchild arrived. None could be found, so Naturepedic was born. Price: $1,999 (Queen)
Made with organic wool, cotton, and latex, Happsy has an organic mattress on the line now. When purchasing latex, remember that there is a difference between natural latex and synthetic latex. Natural latex comes from the sap of rubber trees. It’s different from the synthetic is made from chemicals. It’s also GOTS certified. Price: $1,199
If you are looking for an affordable alternative, check out Sunrising natural latex mattress. (Again, natural latex is from the gum tree.) They offer 120 night risk free trial and a 20 year warranty. No flame retardant chemicals, they use wool and compatible cotton instead. Price- $356
Pure Green has a 100% natural latex mattress. No foam! The cover is organic cotton and organic wool from New Zealand. It’s Greenguard Gold certified, so no fire retardant chemicals. Price- $795
If you’re not ready to purchase a mattress, but want a little non toxic buffer (or cushion), check out Pure Green’s natural latex mattress topper. It’s two inches of 100% natural latex with no fillers.
I hope that gives you some ideas for non toxic mattresses that won’t fill your home full of toxic odors!
