I’m not going to give a big intro or life lesson about vinegar when I know you just want to get to the recipes, but I will say, vinegar is a very useful item to have around the house. It’s a safe, non-toxic alternative to many cleaning products. It’s also an acid and a natural disinfectant if used properly (as in, the correct potency).
Here’s 10 ways to use it in your home:
Weed Killer
1 gallon white vinegar
1 cup salt
1 TB dish soap
Mix and spray on weeds. If you want re-growth in the area of your spraying, don’t add the salt.
Window Cleaner
1/2 part vinegar
1/2 part water
Use newspaper to get the best result with no streaks.
Microwave Cleaner
1/4 cup vinegar
1 cup water
Boil in microwave (in a microwave-safe container) until steam forms then wipe clean.
Coffee Pot Cleaner
1/2 pot vinegar
1/2 pot water
Run through machine like normal and then run a pot of water through to remove any vinegar taste.
Surface Cleaner
1 cup water
1 cup vinegar
1/2 lemon juiced (optional)
10 drops of a good smelling essential oil (optional)
Mix together and shake. DO NOT use on marble or granite. Wipe off with clean cloth if used on wood surfaces. Store in fridge if you used lemon juice in it.
Floor Cleaner
1/2 cup vinegar
1 gallon warm water
A few drops of a good smelling essential oil
Mop like normal!
Laundry Softener
1/4-1/2 cup vinegar
Add to your load like you would softener.
Drain Cleaner
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup vinegar
Pour baking soda down drain and follow it with vinegar. Let sit until reaction is done.
Mildew Remover
Vinegar
Spray vinegar directly onto mold and let it sit. Scrub off with abrasive scrub. Or add to wash cycle if using on fabrics. Vinegar kills about 80% of mold strains.
Dishwasher Rinse Agent
1/4-1/2 cup vinegar
Put vinegar in small glass on the top rack of your dishwasher and run your cycle like normal. DON’T put vinegar directly into your rinse aid compartment because it can break down the rubber in your dishwasher.
